Red Cell Backup Bank is based on a client-server software solution. The backup server is provided by Red Cell as either a shared or a dedicated managed service. In order to access the backup server, client software has to be installed on the systems that need to be included in the backup. Although the software is easy to install, generally we recommend our customers to use the services of a qualified engineer to do this.
Your data is secured using three layers of security measures:
1. User ID and Password: this information is provided to you by Red Cell and is a prerequisite for gaining access to your data;
2. Access is further limited by our strict firewall policy; if your IP address is not on our 'allowed list' you will be refused automatically.
3. Data encryption: the backup software encrypts all outgoing and incoming data using strong, 128-bits AES encryption. You are free to define your own encryption key, which is only stored at your computer and not on our backup server.
It is of the utmost importance that your backup selection includes all files and folders that you need, data that is not selected, will not be backed up and cannot be recovered later. We recommend you to use qualified support personnel to make the right selections and in case of doubt consult our Red Cell Backup Team.
After installation and configuration of the software, regular backups will be made in accordance with the defined schedule. Red Cell Backup Bank will report to you on a daily basis: What the status of the backup service is; Whether or not the last backup session was successful; How many errors are reported; etc. This information is summarised in an easy to read dashboard form, which is emailed to you and contains links to more detailed information on our customer portal.
